The meeting of main opposition party Nepali Congress called on Tuesday was postponed after rival faction led by leaders Ram Chandra Poudel and Krishna Prasad Sitaula boycotted the meeting.
The Poudel-Sitaula faction boycotted the meeting demanding the discipline committee and election committee of the party be formed through consensus. A meeting was summoned at 11 am today to form these committee.
Leaders from the establishment faction under Sher Bahadur Deuba waited for the rival faction to join the meeting at the meeting hall in party office. Leaders from the rival faction were present in the party office but did not go to the meeting hall.
Leader Poudel said the two committees were legal bodies of the party and they have suggested the members and coordinators of the committees be named through consensus. Central member Arjun Narsingh KC echoed Poudel’s statement and said they have boycotted today’s meeting demanding the names be proposed through mutual agreement.
Earlier, president Deuba had asked two names from the other faction to be included in the committee.
