The government has decided to change the name of National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) to Manmohan Memorial National Academy of Medical Science (MMNAMS) in a move to settle the row over the Manmohan Memorial Institute of Health Sciences (MMIHS).

According to Information Minister Surendra Karki, the Cabinet meeting on Thursday also took decision to withdraw a bill on MMIHS.

The decisions are in line with agreements reached with Dr Govinda KC, who has already staged eight round of hunger strikes in the past putting forth various demands seeking reforms in country’s medical education and medical sector.

Dr KC is staging 9^th fast-unto-death in the Capital saying that the government did not pay heed to the agreements forged with him in the past.
