Maiti Nepal, a women and child rights organisation, honored SP Kiran Bajracharya who was awarded with 2016 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report Heroes by the United States Department of State.
Maiti Nepal organised a programme in capital to honour Bajracharya on Wednesday.
Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu Ram Krishna Subedi handed a token of appreciation to SP Bajracharya and congratulated her for receiving the TIP award.
Speaking on the occasion, Maiti Nepal founder Anuradha Koirala credited Nepal Police and National Law Commission for working against human trafficking. She said some 1,200 people involved in human trafficking have been arrested with help from police and the commission.
Bajracharya expressed her gratitude towards Maiti Nepal for honoring her and said it will encourage her and Nepal Police to work and tackle illegal activities related to human trafficking in capital.
The TIP Report Heroes award is presented to individuals who have devoted their lives to the fight against human trafficking by the US Department of State.
