The arrestees have been identified as Sub-Inspector Bijaya Silwal of Community Police Service, Naxal, and his friends Sambhu Kumar Silwal and Ram Kumar Khadka. Sambhu and Ram are not associated with police department.
The trio, in their preliminary statement to the police, has claimed that their patient, Bal Mukunda Khadka, was not taken care of properly.
But the doctors said that they were manhandled by a mob called by the sub-inspector. Dr Sanjit Karki, who was thrashed by wife of Khadka, said the mob unnecessarily attacked doctors and nursing staffers despite providing adequate care to the patient on their part. He said Dr Bimal Pandey and Dr Arun Bhattarai, among other medical staff, were also manhandled. "The patient is stable," said Dr Karki demanding security in the workplace.
Deputy Inspector of Police Daya Nidhi Gyawali of Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur said further investigation into the care is underway.
