Dharma Bhakta Mathema remembered
Heartfelt tributes were paid to martyr Dharma Bhakta Mathema at a programme organised at Sifal on Monday.The Kathmandu Metropolitan City organised the programme, commemorating the day when Mathema attained martyrdom.
The programme was a part of the martyr's week being observed in the country. Mathema was executed by the then autocratic Rana rulers on Magh 13, 1997 BS for raising voices favouring democracy. He was hanged on a tree at Sifal on the accusation of carrying out activities to oust the Rana regime.
KMC executive officer Laxman Aryal said contribution of martyrs including Mathema to develop a democratic system in the country is inspiring for the new generation. Martyrs' soul will get peace if the people become happy and prosperous, he said.
Mathema Samaj Guthi president Surendra Mathema and martyr Dharma Bhakta Mathema's daughter Renu Mathema Shrestha said it would be real tributes to martyrs if people's rights are established and the country is run through democratic system. Renu urged the government to establish a social organisation to the memory of her father.
KMS staff, locals, social workers and educationists were at Sifal to pay tributes to martyr Mathema.
