Two dead, as many missing in separate landslides in Sudurpaschim

At least two people died and as many went missing in separate landslide incidents in Sudurpaschim on Monday.
According to Senior Superintendent Bikram Chand of the Province Police Office, Dhangadi, a 32-year-old woman died after her house was buried by a landslide caused by incessant rains in Ganyapdhura Rural Municipality in Dadeldhura district. Likewise, another person was killed in Adarsha Rural Municipality in Doti district following a landslide.
“We are yet to identify the name and address of the deceased in Doti as the disaster has cut off communication in the area,” said Chand.
Meanwhile, two people, a mother and son, residents of Amargadi Rural Municipality in Dadeldhura have sustained injuries after their house sustained damage in a landslide.
As per the information provided by the Province Police Office, settlements along the Mahakali River banks in Kanchanpur and Karnali River in TIkapur area of Kailali district are at high risk of flooding following incessant rains.
“The water level in Karnali river has risen to 11.5 metres, a metre above the danger level,” said Chand. “We have deployed security personnel towards areas that are at high risk of floods.”
