Tanka Lal Ghising has been nominated member secretary of the National Sports Council, the executive sports body of the country.
Ghising, Bagmati Province secretariat member of the CPN (Maoist) and the president of Nepal Rugby Association, will succeed Ramesh Kumar Silwal. The latter, nominated for a four-year tenure by the KP Oli-led government last year, was sacked by the Deuba-led coalition government on October 18.
Ghising was also appointed for a four-year tenure by the meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday.
Altogether 18 individuals had filed applications for the position as per the provision of new National Sports Development Act that was enforced last year. The Act requires an open selection process and a female candidate among the final three nominees.
Along with Ghising, Achyutam Lamichhane and Mamata Shrestha were recommended by a three-member selection committee formed by Minister for Youth and Sport Maheshwar Gahatraj.
