A solitary gold from Guinean Fode Fofana inspired Three Star Club to 1-0 victory over Himalayan Sherpa Club on Thursday to set the Simara Gold Cup title date with Tribhvuan Army Club (TAC).
The forward netted in the 71st minute which turned out to be decisive in the second semi-final of the tournament played at the Simara Stadium. He capitalising on a pass from Ranjan Bista to score an all-important goal. Three Star skipper Bikram Lama was declared man-of-the-match and earned Rs 10,000 as reward. The final will be the rematch of the last edition where Army defeated Three Star 2-0 last year. In the first semi-final on Wednesday, Army had defeated hosts Nawa Janajagriti Youth Club 1-0.
Himalayan Sherpa manager Dipendra Pudasaini said his team lost proper coordination after his defender Bivek Paudel sustained injured in the early stage of the game. “There was lack of understanding among the players and we also failed to utilise scoring opportunities,” said Pudasaini.
Three Star coach Meghraj KC also expressed dissatisfaction with his side’s performance. “Our boys failed to perform to their potential. They are visibly exhausted after playing one tournament after another without any break. But we will surely come with better performance in the final,” said KC.
It will also be second major final for both the teams as Three Star lost to Nepal Police Club Khaptad Gold Cup final in Dhangadhi on Saturday while Army had claimed the Bishal Gold Cup title in Birgunj defeating Himalayan Sherpa in final the same day.
