National Sports Council Council (NSC) is set to upgrade the Anfa Technical Centre in Chyasal into a 10,000-seater stadium.

Youth and Sports Minister Rajendra Kumar KC, also the NSC chairman, laid the foundation stadium at the grounds on Wednesday. Chyasal ground used to host lower tier leagues and school football but it has not been in use off late. The stadium can adjust 1200 spectators in its parapet at the east and south sides.

NSC Member Secretary Keshav Kumar Bista informed that the current parapet will see upgrade in seating capacity, while the west side will see added infrastructure. According to Bista, the upgrading will cost a total of Rs 335 million. NSC has already given responsibility of upgrading the stadium to three different construction companies that will complete the work by February, 2019.

Minister KC said the upgrade work needs to be completed on time so that it could be used for the 13th South Asian Games which Nepal is intending to host in March, 2019.

Fifa has already agreed on providing astro turf and flood lights at the stadium and All Nepal Football Association President Narendra Shrestha said his committee will discuss about the matter further with the world football governing body delegation that is visiting Nepal on August 31.
