Following their third consecutive victory, Nepal climbed to the top of the round robin league tournament table with six points. Sri Lanka, who have one match in hand, are second with four points ahead of their match against Bangladesh. Nepal had hammered Bangladesh 92-26 in their opener before easing past Maldives 77-36.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have been looking menacing with two consecutive convincing victories and scoring in triple figures in both their matches. They opened the tournament with a 105-39 battering of Maldives and routed Bhutan 112-31 on Wednesday. Nepal play Sri Lanka on Saturday.
In the match on Thursday, Nepal rode on 21 points from Bhawana Lama for an easy victory. Nepal opened the game with a 24-9 lead and extended it to 43 points scoring 34 in the second quarter, Bhutan only added six to their total during the period. The game was virtually over for Bhutan when Nepal netted 16 to that of seven from Bhutan.
The final quarter ended with Nepal leading 16-10. In another match between the two bottom teams, Maldives overcame Bangladesh 62-28 for their first victory in international basketball. In the second match on Friday, Maldives will take on Bhutan.
