Traffic police in Taplejung have impounded four Bolero jeeps operating in the district after finding discrepancies in their registration documents and official records.
The vehicles, impounded from various locations in Phungling municipality, will be sent to the Transport Management Office in Itahari for further investigation, said Suman Adhikari, assistant sub-inspector of Taplejung Traffic Police Office.
Among the impounded vehicles, one with registration number Na 1 Ja 1583 is not listed in the records of the Transport Management Office in Birgunj, Parsa.
Another, Ko 1 Ja 1111, appears in the registration book, but its engine number does not match the vehicle. Na 3 Cha 3928 was found operating without approval, while Na 2 Cha 7295, though registered, has a mismatched engine and was painted white instead of the registered red.
Police said unapproved vehicles are often brought to remote rural roads in Taplejung during the tourist influx to Pathibhara.
