The government has decided to change three province heads.
The Cabinet meeting on Monday decided to replace province heads in Madhesh, Gandaki and Sudurpaschim as they were appointed under the quota of Nepali Congress when the party was in the ruling coalition.
The meeting has recommended President Ramchandra Paudel to appoint new heads in place of Hari Shankar Mishra in Madhesh province, Prithviman Gurung in Gandaki and Dev Raj Joshi in Sudurpaschim.
According to Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma, who is also spokesperson for the government, Sumitra Bhandari, Dilli Raj Bhatta and Najir Miya have been proposed as new province heads for Madhesh, Gandaki and Sudurpaschim, respectively.
The changes were made to ensure that the provincial governments work in line with the decisions made by the federal government, Sharma said.
The Cabinet removed the province heads following the changes in the federal government.
“Collaboration between the central and provincial governments is important,” she said. “Currently, we can see that some [parties] have withdrawn support to provincial governments while some [chief ministers] have sacked ministers there.”
The decision has been made to ensure better coordination between the centre and provinces, Sharma added.
