Nepal opens embassy chancery in Lisbon
Foreign Secretary Rai attends inauguration; Portugal pledges continued support.Post Report
The Nepall embassy has formally inaugurated its chancery in Lisbon amid a special ceremony attended by senior officials from Nepal and Portugal.
Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and Portugal’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Ana Isabel Xavier jointly inaugurated the chancery on Thursday.
On the occasion, Rai expressed gratitude to the Portuguese government for its continued support in establishing the embassy. He said the mission would serve as a bridge to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries further.
Xavier welcomed the embassy as a new addition to Lisbon’s diplomatic community and assured continued support from the Portuguese government for its smooth functioning.
The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Andres Carrascosa Coso welcomed the embassy as a new member of the diplomatic corps in Lisbon.
Nepal’s Ambassador to Portugal Prakash Mani Paudel thanked the Portuguese government for its support in establishing the mission.
In the evening, the embassy hosted an event to mark Nepal’s 76th Democracy Day in the presence of representatives of the Non-Resident Nepali Association and various Nepali community organisations.
Following the celebration, the embassy held an interaction with members of the Nepali community. Participants raised concerns related to consular services and the promotion of trade, tourism and investment between Nepal and Portugal.
