Nepal’s prime minister and all members of his Cabinet will donate one month’s salary to the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund to support relief efforts following recent flooding.

The Cabinet decided at a meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Friday.

The Cabinet also directed the finance ministry to prepare a relief, concessional financing and rehabilitation package for individuals and businesses affected by Wednesday’s floods along the Nepal-China border in Rasuwa, including the Rasuwagadhi area and the Bhotekoshi river and downstream areas.

The floods caused widespread damage in the border region, with rescue and relief operations continuing in affected areas.

In another decision, the Cabinet gave in-principle approval to the Agricultural Inputs Company Ltd to purchase 25,000 metric tonnes of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser from India through a government-to-government arrangement.

The fertiliser purchase aims to ensure adequate supplies for farmers ahead of the planting season.
