Prime Minister Balendra Shah left early Thursday for a field inspection of flood-hit areas in Bidur, Nuwakot.

Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal is accompanying Shah on the visit.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the team left Kathmandu by road at 9:30am for Bidur, one of the areas worst affected by the flooding.

During the visit, Shah and Lamsal will assess the physical damage firsthand and meet local officials, security agencies and elected representatives to discuss relief, rehabilitation and the restoration of disrupted infrastructure.

They are also expected to issue instructions to speed up the delivery of relief to affected communities and accelerate infrastructure reconstruction, the secretariat said.

Shah has been closely involved in the rescue and relief efforts since the flood entered the Bhotekoshi river from Tibet and caused damage downstream on Wednesday.
