Security restrictions have been eased in parts of Madhesh and the eastern Tarai after authorities reviewed the security situation following the Sunsari incidents.

On Saturday, curfew was lifted in the Janakpur area of Dhanusha and Lahan of Siraha, while prohibitory orders restricting public gatherings were introduced in some areas. Curfew remains in force in Golbazar of Siraha.

In Dhanusha, the administration lifted the curfew in the Janakpur area from 10 am on Saturday. Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Luitel said restrictions on gatherings remain in place in areas including Laxminiya, Nagarain, Belauni Road, Sinurjoda, Sohani, Manimandap, ISKCON Janakpur and Dudhmatipul until further notice.

Under the restrictions, gatherings of more than five people, as well as assemblies, processions and demonstrations, have been prohibited in the designated areas.

In Siraha, the administration also lifted the curfew in Lahan from 10 am on Saturday after reviewing the latest security situation, according to Chief District Officer Surendra Paudel.

Curfew remains in place in Golbazar despite signs of improvement, with the administration saying a further decision would be taken after assessing the situation there.

Authorities had imposed curfews and prohibitory orders in several districts across the eastern Tarai after protests and tensions intensified following incidents in Sunsari’s Kaptanganj.

District administrations said the situation was gradually returning to normal and urged residents to comply with restrictions aimed at maintaining peace, public order and communal harmony.

They warned that anyone violating the orders would face action under prevailing laws.
