Persistent rainfall has triggered landslides and flooding that have blocked nine major highways across Nepal, disrupting traffic in several districts, according to Nepal Police.

Most of the affected roads are in Koshi and Bagmati provinces, where several highway sections have been either completely or partially closed as of Monday afternoon.

In Koshi Province, traffic on the Mid-Hill Highway at Bokhim in Bhojpur Municipality-5 is operating one-way after flooding damaged the road.

The Mechi Highway has been blocked by landslides at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 and at Khobare Khola in Yangwarak Rural Municipality-1 of Panchthar district.

A landslide has also shut the Diktel-Bhojpur section of the Mid-Hill Highway at Matekhola in Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-6 of Khotang district.

In Bagmati Province, authorities have suspended traffic on the BP Highway due to the risk of flooding.

Vehicle movement has also been halted on the Kathmandu-Hetauda Kanti Highway until further notice due to the threat of landslides and flash floods.

According to Nepal Police, the Araniko Highway has been completely blocked by landslides at Jurikhola and Kodari in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4 of Sindhupalchok district.

Traffic is operating on a one-way basis on the Pasang Lhamu Highway at Bokejhunda in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-6 of Rasuwa district.

The Prithvi Highway has been completely blocked by a landslide at Phisling in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-3 of Chitwan district.

In Dhading district, traffic is moving one way along part of the Prithvi Highway at Tismarkhani in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-10, while the road at Jawang Khola remains completely closed.

Police said the continuing rainfall has kept the risk of landslides and flooding high and urged travellers to check the latest road conditions with the relevant authorities before beginning their journey.
