Parsa court orders RSP chair Lamichhane to furnish Rs10 million bail

The Parsa District Court on Tuesday ordered Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chairman Rabi Lamichhane to deposit bail of Rs10 million in connection with a cooperative fund embezzlement case.
A single bench of judge Rudra Subedi issued the order after concluding the detention hearing in the case related to the alleged misappropriation of funds belonging to the Birgunj-based Sano Paila Savings and Credit Cooperative.
Lamichhane appeared before the Parsa District Court on Tuesday, travelling directly from Janakpur. After recording his statement, the court issued a detention order and sought bail against Lamichhane, Devraj Bhattarai, the registrar at the court, said on Tuesday. He said Lamichhane would be released upon furnishing the bail amount, failing which he would be sent to judicial custody for trial.
Earlier, the Parsa district government attorney’s office had filed a charge sheet on June 13, 2025 demanding compensation of Rs115.694 million and accusing Lamichhane of cooperative fraud and organised crime. Additional punishment has also been sought under Clause (a) and (g) of Section 9 of the Organised Crime Prevention Act, 2013.
Following the completion of its investigation, Parsa Police had submitted its report to the government attorney’s office, which later filed charges against Lamichhane and 29 others at the district court.
Investigations found that Rs100.694 million had been transferred from Sano Paila Cooperative to Gorkha Media Pvt Ltd, while Rs9.598 million was transferred to Nature Herbs Industries Pvt Ltd.
