Post Report
The bodies of all Nepalis who lost their lives in a train accident in India have been handed over to their family members. The Indian Railway has transported the bodies to the locations requested by the deceased’s relatives.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nepali Embassy in Delhi has been coordinating this. According to the Embassy’s Consular Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjeev Sharma, out of the seven deceased Nepali nationals, the families of four have performed the last rites in India. The bodies of three others have been sent to Nepal, he said.
Tapendra Bhandari, the son of Kamala Navin Bhandari from Kailali, who lost her life in the accident, said that he was bringing his mother’s body home by ambulance from the accident site. The ambulance was arranged by Indian Railways. SSP Sharma said that the bodies of the deceased have been sent to the locations requested by their relatives.
Upon handing over the bodies, Indian Railways provided financial assistance of IRs50,000 to each family for the funeral. The federal and state governments have announced a compensation of IRs650,000 for the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.
SSP Sharma said continuous communication is being maintained with the Indian authorities for providing the relief amount.
At least seven Nepalis were killed in the Jalgaon train accident in Maharashtra, India, on Wednesday evening. Indian media reports said that at least 12 people died and 15 others were injured after some passengers of the Pushpak Express—which was bound for Mumbai from Lucknow—jumped off the train after an alarm chain-pulling incident. They were then run over by the Karnataka Express on an adjacent track in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district on Wednesday evening.
