Finance Minister Mahat, Chinese counterpart Liu Kun hold talks

Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat on Monday held talks with his Chinese counterpart Liu Kun on the sideline of the 3rd G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting in Gujrat, India.
During the meeting, the ministers discussed historical relations and areas of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, according to Finance Minister Mahat’s secretariat.
“Both ministers shared a similar opinion that both countries are sensitive to each other’s interests and concerns. Minister Mahat expressed his gratitude for China’s continued assistance to the development endeavours of Nepal,” reads the statement by the secretariat.
Minister Mahat expressed his hope that commitments made by the Chinese President to provide significant support to Nepal’s economic development during his Nepal visit in 2019 will now move ahead as the Covid pandemic has subsided.
Mahat expressed his belief that the roads connecting the two countries from major transit points could be an important area of assistance, adding that the concerned agencies of both countries should move such projects forward.
He also expressed his hope that the Tokha-Chhahare tunnel road construction project will be implemented soon.
In response, Chinese Finance Minister Liu expressed China’s desire to help Nepal’s development and expressed his belief that the cooperation projects will be implemented soon.
