The situation at the Kathmandu-16-based ELIPS School has been tense as agitated students and guardians have been protesting against the school administration for the past three days.
The protests were staged after a 13-year-old boy was found hanging in his school hostel room late on Tuesday.
According to Kathmandu Police Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Sitaram Rijal, the guardians of the fifth-grader have filed a murder case against the school administration.
“Initially, the death was ruled out as suicide, but an investigation into the matter was launched after the case was registered,” Rijal said.
The school principal Dirghahari Dahal, hostel in charge Ryan Sapkota and one Purushuttam Adhikari have been taken into police custody by the Sohrakhutte Police Office for further investigation.
The victim’s family have accused the school administration of posing as the victim’s guardians and taking the body to the hospital. However, the school has claimed that the victim was taken to the hospital in the presence of his sister.
The victim’s family suspect foul play as the wound marks have been found on the victim’s legs and face.
The protestors have accused the school administration of physically abusing the students.
