Police have arrested a man on the charge of cyberattacks on Nepal Army servers.
According to Superintendent of Police Pashupati Kumar Raya, who is also the spokesperson for the cyber bureau of Nepal Police, police arrested Sagar Dhakal of Syangja based on clues from the army.
Dhakal was arrested from Pokhara and an investigation into the case is underway, said Raya.
Raya said Dhakal attempted attacks on servers several times.
Government agencies in Nepal have been facing a series of cyberattacks of late because of inadequate institutional arrangements.
Nepal government’s main server faced cyberattacks on January 28 that led to the shutting down of a large number of official websites. The cyberattacks had resulted in disruptions of hundreds of government websites across the country and had also hit international travel due to the shutdown of the immigration server.
Before that, the Department of Passports was attacked in 2017 while 58 government sites were hacked in the same year, putting national security at risk.
