The Janata Samajbadi Party has recommended the name of Manju Ansari for the vacant post of the House of Representatives lawmaker.
A central executive committee meeting of the party held on Thursday decided to recommend Ansari’s name to the Election Commission based on a closed list for the proportional representation system under the Muslim cluster.
Ansari, however, will not be allowed to vote in the vice-presidential election scheduled for Friday as the Election Commission has already published the final voter roll.
The post was vacant after the party’s lawmaker Shahnaz Rahman died of a heart attack on February 25.
Although a by-election is held in the case of the death of a directly-elected lawmaker, the post is fulfilled through the party’s recommendation in the case of the proportional representation lawmaker.
