Money orders and cashier checks of Nepal Embassy in US looted

Money orders and cashier checks of the Nepal Embassy in Washington DC, United States of America have been looted in Houston.
The embassy issuing a statement on Friday said that the money orders and cashier checks submitted by the service seekers for a fee at the consular service camp organized by the embassy from December 15 to 20 in the cities of Dallas, Austin and Houston, were looted.
The vehicle carrying the orders and checks, parked along the route from Houston to Washington, was vandalized and looted at 12:30 PM local time on Friday, the embassy said.
The embassy has reported to the Houston Police Department and Diplomatic Security Division Houston and other agencies regarding this incident and is trying to recover the stolen money order and cashier checks.
The statement hasn’t disclosed the number of money orders and cashier checks that were stolen and the identity of officials who were travelling with the vehicle.
“The embassy apologizes for the inconvenience caused to the service seekers,” it said.
“The Embassy is hopeful that all the Nepali service recipients will cooperate as much as possible in the process of returning the looted revenue money of the Nepali government and investigating this incident that happened while the embassy tried to provide the service near the recipients.”
The embassy has requested all Nepali service recipients from the consular service camps to cancel the money order and cashier checks issued for the service if it is possible. It has also requested the service seekers to prepare new money orders and cashier checks and send them to the embassy.
Meanwhile an official of the embassy said they are waiting for the investigations to complete before disclosing the total amount.
“Our efforts so far are focused on cooperating with the law enforcement agencies to enable them to complete the investigations in order to recover the stolen money orders, stopping the transactions involving the lost money orders, and tracing transactions involving the stolen money orders if they do take place,” said the official.
