The CPN-UML on Tuesday unveiled its election manifesto for the November 20 federal and provincial assembly polls promising to fulfill 20 commitments that the party terms as guarantees if voted to power.
The party, in the manifesto, vowed to resolve the long-standing citizenship issue within six months after the formation of the government.
The poll commitments that were made public by the party Chairman KP Sharma Oli amid a program in Kathmandu states the party will resolve the issues of obtaining citizenship by descent within one month of the government formation.
“The issues related to citizenship will be resolved within six months,” reads the manifesto while refraining from mentioning the exact issue.
The Citizenship Amendment Bill that was passed by both Houses of the parliament has become defunct after it was not certified by President Bidya Devi Bhandari within the constitutional deadline. The bill was supposed to resolve the citizenship issue that deprives the children of those receiving citizenship by birth to get citizenship by descent.
Other election commitments include making policy and structural reforms for prosperity.
“Policies that are obstacles to prosperity will be reformed. State organisations that have turned defunct due to excessive politicisation will be made functional and professional through restructuring,” mentions the manifesto.
The party further said it will ensure food security to all to make sure no one dies of hunger, launch 'Make in Nepal' campaign to increase domestic production, generate 500,000 jobs every year and make sure labours are entitled to minimum salaries and timely increments.
On health, the party has forwarded a slogan of “Healthy Nepal, Strong Citizens” and vowed to expand primary health facilities at the municipalities, provide free diagnosis and medicines for citizens aged over 60 and vaccine access to all children.
The party has also expressed an ambitious commitment to double the per capita income to USD 2,400.
