The Nepali Embassy in United Arab Emirates (UAE) has arrears of Rs7.6 million. The Office of Auditor General, while auditing financial transactions of the embassy for the fiscal year 2018/2019, prepared a preliminary report stating that the embassy has arrears of Rs 7.6 million.
The amount was identified as arrear out of the total expenditure made during the four-year term of former ambassador Dhananjaya Jha and 21 months tenure of former acting ambassador Netra Bikram Tandon.
The Office of Auditor General stated that Rs 4.6 million of the total arrear amount should be recovered from the staffers who worked during the tenure of Jha and Tandon. It has also been found that the expenditure for Rs 2.4 million was made without any bills or documents.
The report also stated that the expenditure of Rs297,000 was found to be irregular.
The Office of Attorney General has given instruction to recover the arrears amount after it found that the embassy staffers haphazardly spend the money under various title.
The audit also discovered that the embassy staffers were availing themselves of the allowance in certain cases which is otherwise barred by the diplomatic mission expenditure procedure.
The arrears amount in almost all the embassies in golf countries is on the rise due to irregularity in expenditure.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has also not given any interest on the irregularities going on in diplomatic missions abroad, it is learnt
