Ghimire had returned to the country from Delhi on Saturday after a successful 10-day treatment at Medanta Hospital. The 99-year-old poet was admitted to the Dhapasi-based Grande Hospital on Sunday after doctors found out during routine check-up that his health issue had reappeared.
According to Consultant Pulmonologist at Grande Hospital Dr Ravi Mahat,“Poet Ghimire has been suffering from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) for a long time, but recently due to addition of Pleural Effusion (water on the lungs) and reappearance of internal bleeding, he had to be admitted.” Dr Chakra Raj Pandey, medical director of Grande, said the main cause of the internal bleeding was still not confirmed.
“We have succeeded in controlling the bleeding for now and he is completely fine. But since the bleeding had resurfaced even after undergoing treatment recently, we have suggested him to go back to Delhi,” he said. Ghimire’s family member said that they would be leaving for Delhi on Monday. “When we took him to Grande for regular check-up, the internal bleeding was seen again,” said Ghimire’s daughter-in-law Bijeta Ghimire. “Based on the doctors’ suggestion, we have decided to treat him in Delhi once again.
