Locals intensify protest in Dhankuta after Biratnagar named as provincial HQ

The Dhankuta locals had been staging demonstration since few weeks demanding the district be declared the capital of province 1.
The agitated locals today vandalised various government offices and set fire at Regional Administration Office. The protesters have also set fire the regional office, division office among other government office in the district.
The protesters had set fire at the administration office while Deputy Regional Officer Sawantaraj Dahal was inside the office premises. However, the police rescued Dahal.
Likewise, the demonstrators have also vandalised the Dhankuta session of the Biratnagar-based High Court. They have also vandalised the fire brigade vehicle and ambulance.
Meanwhile, police have been deployed to take the situation under control. However, with reports of several incidents of clashes between protesters and police at various major parts of Dhankuta the situation seems far from control.
