Police said that they have arrested two cadres of the Maoist Centre.
Security has been tightened at the vote counting centre. The vote counting centre has been sealed following the incident, it has been learnt.
Vote counting has become uncertain at a time when the counting has reached the last phase.
According to Chief Election Officer Kabi Prasad Neupane, the party representatives have turned the vote counting station into a virtual battle ground.
“The vote counting centre has been turned into a battle ground after the Maoist Centre cadres tore the ballot papers,” he said, “The counting has been stopped after the incident.”
He said that action would be taken against those involved in the incident after submitting a report to the Election Commission.
UML’s Devi Gyawali and Maoist Centre’s Renu Dahal, daughter of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, are vying for the post of mayor in Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
Gyawali said that he was saddened by the activities of the cadres of ruling party.
