The newly elected officials of Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan City have assumed their posts on Sunday.
Mayor Man Bahadur GC and Deputy Mayor Manju Devi Gurung assumed the metropolis office at Newroad.
Mayor GC, soon after taking charge of the office, made three decisions—to make the metropolis services effective within 10 days, increase social security allowance given to elderly people by 10 percent with effect from coming fiscal year and provide free legal consultations on cases related to women violence.
GC, who ran for the mayoral post from CPN-UML, has said that he would implement the election manifesto to a T.
“We increased the allowance expecting it would not make a significant impact on our expenditure. We will monitor leakage to manage resources,” said GC.
There are 13,107 elderly people above 70 years of age in the metropolitan city.
Mayor GC, while assuming the office, also said that he would acquire statistics of unemployed youth and propose skill enhancement programmes to them.
