Minister Thapa, who is also the chairman of Rastirya Prajatantra Party (RPP), said the elections are connected with the implementation of the new constitution and therefore cannot be postponed.
Speaking at the party programme in Tulsipur on Tuesday, Thapa said, “Questions will arise on the fate of our constitution, if elections could not be conducted immediately. This election is for giving life to the constitution.”
DPM Thapa said that the elections could be convened in two phases if agitating Madhes-centric parties, who are against the elections unless their demands are met through constitution amendment, decide to take part in the local polls.
“The upcoming elections cannot be postponed, however, it can be held in two phases if Madhes-based parties decide to participate in the polls.”
The leader urged the Madhes-based parties to withdraw their decision of boycotting local polls.
