People in Lakhanpur and Gunsi VDCs said they have to walk for two days to reach the district headquarters Manthali to receive health services. There are no doctors in the rural health facilities, complains local Purna Singh Yonjan. “We are compelled to take medicines prescribed by untrained health care assistants. The patients are at risk here,” he said.
People in Gunsi, Lakhanpur, Doramba, Tokarpur, Gaushowara, Dimipokhari, Hiledevi, Rakathum, Khaniyapani, Majhuwa Bhirpani, Khadadevi, Gagal, Makadum and Pingkhuri VDCs could not get the services of the doctors. Kanchha Moktan of Hiledevi said patients in remote areas have been victimised as they are deprived of proper treatment on time.
Not all of the people living in the remote areas can afford treatment in the city areas. Despite District Council’s recommendation to establish a primary health centre in Galwa of Khadadevi, the government has not paid attention to the demands of villagers. Dr Prakash Prasad Shah of the District Health Office pointed out the lack of government support for the current sorry state.
