Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ram Chandra Poudel has termed the uproar surrounding the impeachment of Lokman Singh Karki “an unnecessary hype which has overshadowed the constitution implementation process”.

“Lokman is just an individual. He will be punished as per the existing legal provision of the country. There is no reason to launch a political movement to remove him,” he said at a party gathering in Dhangadhi on Wednesday. 

The NC is yet to decide its official position on the impeachment motion that was jointly filed by the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the CPN-UML against the chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority. 

Poudel has said that the NC will play the role of a judge rather than plaintiff or defendant on Karki’s impeachment. 

“Congress will take the right decision at the right time,” he said.

Another NC leader Prakashman Singh also echoed Poudel’s views on Karki’s impeachment when he was questioned by reporters in Jumla. The party will soon take decision on the issue through the Parliamentary Party meeting, he said.

“The NC has taken right decision at the right time in the past as well,” he claimed.
