Nepali Congress (NC) Dhanusha District Committee has warned of retaliation against the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) unless the latter stops its ‘attack’ on the NC leaders and activists.
At a press meet in Janakpur on Tuesday, NC Dhanusha President Ramsaroj Yadav condemned the arson and vandalism at houses of the NC lawmakers. “We are compelled to retaliate if the Madhesi Morcha continues its violent activities, targeting the NC leaders and activists,” said Yadav.
The SLMM supporters on Monday barged into the compound of NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi’s house at Mills Area and
torched two motorcycles parked there.
The protesters also hurled stones at the houses of NC leaders Ananda Prasad Dhungana and Leela Koirala at Bhanuchowk and Bramhapuri. The agitating Madhes-based parties have intensified their protest since Saturday, targeting the local level conventions of the NC.
The other Madhesi fronts protesting in the Tarai districts, including the Sanghiya Samabeshi Madhesi Gathabandhan, are also said to be involved in barring NC leaders from visiting their towns and villages. Stating that the NC is in favour of addressing Madhes’ genuine demands, leader Yadav pointed out the Madhes agitation is waning by the day due to the SLMM’s anarchic, undemocratic and anti social activities.
