Violent clash erupted between the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) activists and the security personnel in Janakpur on Sunday after the protesters hurled Molotov cocktail targeting the house of Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Leela Koirala. Around 10 people were injured in the incident. The clash ensued as the protesters hurled a Molotov cocktail and stones at Koirala’s house in Bramhupuri. Koirala is in Janakpur for the past few days to attend the party’s village/municipal and district convention.
Sanjaya Kumar Singh, the Dhanusha chairman of Sadbhawana Party, said that the security personnel used excessive force in what was a peaceful demonstration taken out by the SLMM.
According to NC Dhanusha President Ramsaroj Yadav, the unruly protesters hurled a Molotov cocktail and stones at Koirala’s house, demanding that she leave the district immediately. “Everyone has the right to organise a peaceful protest, but that does not mean you can vandalise someone’s house,” he said.
The SLMM cadres had staged a demonstration near Koirala’s house on Saturday as well. Meanwhile, the NC village and municipal convention continued in various places in the district despite the SLMM disruption. The NC district president informed the party convention concluded in the VDC and municipality electing the party representatives.
