Referendum in five districts could be problematic: Upendra Yadav
Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav has warned that the country could face serious crisis if referendum is held only in the five disputed districts—Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari in east and Kailali and Kanchanpur in west.Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav has warned that the country could face serious crisis if referendum is held only in the five disputed districts—Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari in east and Kailali and Kanchanpur in west.
“The referendum will not help resolve current problem. The problem is not about five districts but is about few leaders whose constituencies lie in the districts,” said Yadav during an interaction in the Capital on Tuesday.
“If referendum is to be held on where to align the disputed five districts, are leaders of top parties ready to hold referendum on federalism, republic status to Nepal and inclusive principles?” he questioned.
Chairman Yadav, who is also at the forefront of Madhes agitation, said the constitution amendment proposal tabled by Nepali Congress does not address the demands of Tarai people, and hence the proposal is not acceptable to Madhes-centric parties.
