Tensions ran high at Mainapokhar in Bardiya district on Friday due to the protest by Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM). Police fired three shots into the air to disperse the crowd.

A clash erupted between the police and the protesters after the police intervened in taking over of a passenger bus by the unruly demonstrators.

One police constable sustained injures during the clash with the protesters. Constable Dev Bahadur Pandey sustained injuries to his knee and has been taken to Nepalgunj-based hospital to receive medical treatment.

The passenger bus is headed towards Gulariya after the police chased away the protesters.
