Chaudhary said that they provided the citizenship certificate to Kami after her eldest son Birkhe, 66, produced documents proving Kami as his mother.
“I did not feel the need to acquire the citizenship card when I reached the required age for the same. When I felt the need for the same, I was too old even to walk to the district headquarters to get my citizenship certificate made,” she said, adding that she was happy to have received the card at such an old age. Now that she has received her citizenship certificate, Kami will start receiving social security allowance and government services meant for the senior citizen, the facilities which she had been denied due to lack of citizenship card, from the coming Nepali month of Shrawan, concerned VDC officials said.
Sharing her past experiences, Kami, whose husband died some 20 years ago, said that she has never worn sandals or boarded a vehicle or took any medicines her entire life. Son Birkhe said that despite her advanced age his mother walks normally, but is suffering from age-related hearing loss .
