KMC plans park for Saarc meet
Keeping in mind the upcoming Saarc summit, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has decided to beautify the plot west of Singhadurbar.Dipak Bayalkoti
“UNI Shanti Marg” will be equipped with a 365-metre road which will intersect 13 ropani land to facilitate both vehicles and pedestrians.
Similarly, footpath will also be constructed on either side of the stretch, while the bridge above will also be coloured.
According to UNI Liaison Council, the construction will start soon after the approval of tender bid. “This project will be an exemplary model for public private partnership,” said Shankhar Lamichane, chairman of the Council. “We are committed to complete the project before the Saarc summit which is taking place in November.”
Other entities involved with funding the project include Nepal Telecom, Rastriya Banijya Bank, Nepal Stock Exchange, Nepal Television, Rastriya Samachar Samiti, Nepal Food Corporation, and Nepal Agriculture Research Council. In 2012, KMC had decided to bear 50 percent of the estimated project cost of Rs 14.5 million. A KMC official said the project has been prioritised.
