The Airlines Operators Association Nepal, an umbrella organisation of the private airlines, on Tuesday threatened to halt all services from Wednesday onwards if the aviation regulator does not roll back its decision made on Sunday.
As per the decision, the fixed-wings operators and helicopter companies need to shift more than 60 percent of their aircraft to other airports as their operating base.
The association said that the decision was taken in haste and the regulator did not even consult with them.
The association has issued a five-point demand. The demand also includes the removal of the passenger service charge that the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal had increased by more than double.
The regulator has also imposed a mandatory rule that will require the helicopter companies to operate VIP flights with two pilots.
“We would like to inform you that regular flights including emergency rescue operations conducted by helicopters will be postponed from Wednesday if our demands are not met,” said the association in the statement.
The association has also put the construction of long-term helipads, helicopter hangars and other physical infrastructure in their five-point demand.
The association also demanded immediate steps to remove Nepal from the European Commission’s air safety list.
According to the association, the entire tourism sector has been affected since Nepali airlines were included in the air safety list by the European Commission in December 2013.
