Five people were killed and 27 others injured in a bus accident in Jajarkot district on Sunday at around 2 am.

The bus enroute to Rukum West from Nepalgunj with 32 passengers onboard fell nearly 150 metre down the road at Kudu Bara Chowk in Bheri Municipality, police said.

According to Deputy Superintendent Madhu Kumar Thapa of District Police Office, Jajarkot, five people died on the spot.

“Twenty-seven injured people were rescued by the police with the help of the locals,” said Thapa. “The injured have been taken to Jajarkot District Hospital for treatment.”

According to Thapa, the rescue of the victims was delayed as the accident had occurred early in the morning. "Investigation into the details of the accident is ongoing," he said.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed, said Thapa.
