Nepal reports five more Covid-19-related fatalities to take the death toll to 847; national tally reaches 158,089 with 2,856 new infections

Nepal on Sunday reported five Covid-19-related fatalities taking the death toll to 847. The country also recorded 2,856 new cases, pushing the national infection tally to 158,089.
The number of active cases stands at 45,572 as 111,670 people have made successful recovery—3,336 of them in the past 24 hours.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, Kathmandu Valley recorded 1,535 new cases in the past 24 hours. Of them, 1,225 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 163 in Bhaktapur and 147 in Lalitpur.
As of Sunday, the number of confirmed cases in the Valley has reached 69,496. A total of 66,998 cases have been detected after the three district administration offices in Kathmandu Valley imposed prohibitory orders on August 19.
According to the ministry, 403 individuals from Bagmati Province, 150 from Province 2, 118 from Lumbini Province, 110 from Province 1, 40 from Gandaki Province, 16 from Sudurpaschim Province, and 10 from Karnali Province have died of Covid-19 so far.
The country has witnessed 140,095 infections and 807 deaths since July 22. A total of 17,994 cases and 40 deaths were registered until July 21, when the government decided to end the nationwide lockdown after four months.
As of Sunday, 1,393,173 PCR tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 12,311 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the data released by the ministry.
In the past 24 hours, 539 new infections were reported in Province 1, 59 in Province 2, and 1,849 in Bagmati Province.
Similarly, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces reported 178, 146, 9, and 76 new cases respectively.
Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts in Province 1, Chitwan in Bagmati Province and Nawalparasi (East) in Gandaki Province saw more than 100 new infections in the past 24 hours.
While sixteen districts—Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Kavrepalanchok, Kaski, Nawalparasi (West), Dang, Rupandehi, Banke, Surkhet and Kailali—have more than 500 active cases, Mustang does not have any active case, according to the Ministry.
As of Sunday, 277 Covid-19 patients are being treated in intensive care units across the country and 66 others—45 in Bagmati Province, 10 in Province 1, eight in Lumbini Province, two in Province 2 and one in Gandaki—are on ventilator support.”
Nepal on Saturday reported 13 Covid-19-related fatalities and 2,225 new cases. On Friday reported 17 Covid-19-related fatalities and 4,499 new cases were reported. The country on Thursday reported 21 Covid-19-related deaths and 3,637 new infections compared to 26 deaths and 5,743 new infections, the highest single day records, on Wednesday and 3,093 new infections and eight deaths on Tuesday.
