Nepal reports 24th death and 538 new cases as national total surges over 10,000

Nepal on Tuesday reported its 24th Covid-19 related death and 538 new cases as the national tally climbed to 10,099.
Dr Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, during a regular press briefing said a 45-year-old man from Dullu Municipality-3 in Dailekh died on Monday. “The person with tuberculosis and asthma problem was admitted to Dullu Hospital in Dailekh and was referred to Provincial Hospital in Surkhet on June 17. His swab samples were taken on the same day and the result came positive on June 18. He died while undergoing treatment at the isolation ward of the hospital at 9:30pm Monday,” said Dr Gautam.
The ministry also confirmed 538 new Covid-19 cases across the country in the last 24 hours.
“Samples of 50 individuals from Pyuthan, 48 from Palpa, 29 from Dhanusha, 38 from Kailali, 29 from Gorkha, 23 from Surkhet, 22 each from Saptari, Bajhang, Nawalparasi (East), Syangja, Parbat and Dailekh, 20 from Bajura, 19 from Dang, 18 from Dhading, 17 from Kanchanpur, 14 from Baglung, 13 from Rautahat, 12 each from Jhapa and Mahottari tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours,” said Dr Gautam.
“Swab samples of eight persons each from Kaski and Tanahun, seven each from Achham and Siraha, five each from Gulmi and Lamjung, four each from Dadeldhura and Salyan, three each from Sunsari and Rupandehi, two each from Morang, Tehrathum, Argakganchi and Sarlahi, and one each from Humla and Kalikot also came positive.”
There were 535 new cases reported on Monday and 421 new cases and one death on Sunday. While Nepal recorded 331 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, the country detected 426 cases on Friday and a record 671 cases, the highest daily tally, along with two deaths on Thursday. On Wednesday, 586 cases were confirmed.
According to the ministry, the virus has been found in 76 districts so far with Rasuwa in Bagmati province the only district without any case.
Rautahat has a total of 1,159 cases, the highest for a district, followed by Dailekh with 748 infections while Kapilvastu has 705 Covid patients.
“So far, 186,366 polymerase chain reaction tests and 271,584 rapid diagnostic tests have been carried out across the country,” said Gautam.
According to Gautam, 2,224 people—76 within the last 24 hours—have been discharged from various hospitals after recovering.
