The Food Management and Trading Company Limited will supply subsidised rice to the northern villages of Gorkha only after Dashain festival.
According to Shiva Sunar, information officer of the Food Management and Trading Company Limited in Gorkha, a total of 2,000 quintals of subsidised rice have been allotted for Philim depot in Sirdibas, 750 quintals each in Namrung and Chumling depots in Chumnubri Rural Municipality for the current fiscal year.
“We sold the subsidised rice which was in stock for the Dashain festival. We have still 400 quintals of rice in the depots that will be sold before Tihar,” said Sunar, stating that there is no shortage of subsidised rice in the depots.
The northern settlements of Gorkha including Chhekampar, Chumchet, Sirdibas, Lho, Prok, Bihi and Samagaun often reel under shortages of food. The area is yet to be connected to the road network and the local food production is insufficient.
