Former Nepali international footballer YB Ghale, who has been suffering from paralysis for more than a decade, received Rs 200,000 in financial support from Nepal National and International Players' Association England chapter on Friday.
Siddhanta Bikram Chhetri, the NNIPA president of England chapter, said that the amount handed to Ghale was the saving they had made in England after organising various cultural programs. The 61-year-old Ghale had scored the first official international goal for Nepal during their 3-1 defeat to Kuwait at the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi.
Ghale, a key member of the Nepali national team from 1982 to 1990, is also the former executive committee member of the All Nepal Football Association and technical director of ANFA Academy. He was also the influential player of the team that won gold during the first South Asian Games in 1984. But he has remained passive after being paralyzed on 2008. He is not able to walk on his own.
NNIPA President Dipak Shrestha said that many players like him took up the sport after being inspired by seniors like Ghale. He also appealed ANFA to support players like Ghale who were in the history book of Nepali sports. Nepal Boxing Association former President Rajiv Shrestha urged the respective sports associations and government bodies to support legendary players like Ghale.
