The Meteorological Forecasting Division on Saturday warned of rising temperatures across the country.
Those living in the Tarai region are especially advised to take necessary precautions as hot winds and heat waves are expected to rise to alarming levels on Saturday and Sunday, the division said on Saturday morning.
“Such weather phenomena may cause fatigue, excessive thirst, headache, leg cramps, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, among other conditions,” the notice reads.
The Met office has suggested citizens stay inside their homes, or in cool places, during the day, limit exposure to the sun and outdoor movement, intake sufficient water and wear light white clothes.
With rising temperatures, several local units across the southern belt of the country have been forced to declare summer holidays due to extreme heat, including heat waves.
Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City in Kailali, a Tarai district in the far-western part of the country, announced a week’s holiday starting Thursday for all educational institutions after the local temperature started soaring.
Similarly, the district’s two other municipalities—Tikapur and Lamkichuha—have also decided to close schools for five days starting Thursday.
On Friday, Nepalgunj experienced the hottest day in the country with temperatures rising up to 43 degrees Celsius. Dhangadhi followed closely with a maximum of 42.5 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 30.3 degrees Celsius.
