Panchayat to hold its Nepal premiere on Friday
Feature film Panchayat, which brings to the screen a story from the autocratic Panchayat era, is going to have its Nepal premiere this Friday, March 9;Feature film Panchayat, which brings to the screen a story from the autocratic Panchayat era, is going to have its Nepal premiere this Friday, March 9; the producers have said that the premiere will see attendance of the movers and shakers of Nepali politics, in the likes of Pushmakamal Dahal, Jhalanath Khanal, Gagan Thapa and Lal Babu Pandit, among others. The film will release to the public on March 16. Prior to this, the film was screened at the San Franscisco Film Festival, where it bagged two awards—Best Foreign Language feature and Best Actress award (Nita Dhungana)—under the Foreign-Lanuage film category.
Panchayat is based in the year 1974 CE two years after King Birendra ascended the throne, and features real-life footages from the era. Panchayat was shot in Baglung and surrounding districts.
Panchayat is written and directed by Shivam Adhikari and features actors Ganesh Giri, Janwi Basnet, Suchitra Uprety, and Pakriti Dhungel, alongside Khanal, Dhungana and Rana. Panchayat is produced jointly by Shushant Shrestha and Shankar Subedi.
