Siddhartha Art Foundation’s Education Initiative (SAFEI), in association with the Indian Culture Centre, will host a presentation by Ruchira Das—founder of Think Arts, a Kolkata-based art organisation—at the Yala Maya Kendra, in Patan, on September 8.
According to the organisers, the presentation, which has been modeled primarily for artists, teachers, and theatre practitioners, will delve into ThinkArts and the process of creating and managing art-engagements for children and young people.
Speaking to the Post about the event, Nischal Oli, project coordinator at SAFEI, said, “We wanted Ruchika Das to come here and share her endeavour to make art more engaging to the children. In the past few years, a host of organisations that focus on the welfare of children has opened in the Valley; so we wanted to bring all of them together and expand the concept of what art can do and how we can develop an artist in a child.” He further added, “Education in Nepal is limited to academics and there is very less room for art and creativity in classrooms. We want to make education more experience- and art-based, as it is more effective than traditional medium. We believe that this event can play an important role to promote art-based education for children.”
The organisation will also be hosting an exhibition featuring the works by child artists in March next year.
The event will also feature cultural programmes, slated to be performed by the students of Indian Culture Centre (ICC).
The event starts 5 pm onwards.
