Amid this, acclaimed Nepali artist Uma Shankar Shah’s artworks are currently on view at the India Habitat Centre in Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The exhibit has been organised by the Delhi-based Ganesha Gallery and will be displayed through the month of May. The exhibition boasts a total of 34 pieces of art. Saha’s artworks depict, through metaphors and symbolism, the inter-relationship between the Nepali and Indian populace.
Also, Saha’s work speak volumes about the socio-cultural, economic and geopolitical relationship between the two neighbouring nations. In doing so, Saha, in one of his works, uses the Janakpur-Jayanagar railway as a metaphor to weigh in the relationship between the countries. This particular piece of art is a staggering 18ft long and is priced at INRs 20 lakh, which, according to the artist, has already been purchased by the Bihar government, and is slated to be archived in the state’s Railway Museum.
Moreover, the works on display also do, in some way, represent the status of contemporary Nepali arts. Saha is among the few established Nepali artists who are painting in the etching print medium.
Saha is also a lecturer at the Central Department of Fine Arts in Tribhuwan University. Saha’s works have previously been showcased in about a dozen countries, including South Korea and Japan.
