Chronicles hits the shelves
The Nepal Scene: Chronicles of Elizabeth Hawley (1988-2007), a two-volume set dealing with events in Nepali history from the late 80s to the late 2000s, was launched yesterdayAbhinawa Devkota
Peter W Bodde, the US Ambassador to Nepal, was the chief guest of the programme, which saw the presence of foreign as well as Nepali dignitaries. Attending the launch were former foreign minister and seasoned diplomat Bhekh Bahadur Thapa, journalists Kunda Dixit and Kanak Dixit and former chief of the Nepali Army Rookmangud Katawal, among others.
The books are compilations of monthly records and entries made by Hawley in the aforementioned timeframe. While Choegyal, who is also the honorary consul of New Zealand to Nepal, contributed in editing and standardising the entries for publication, Dunham, who is an expert of Nepali and Tibetan affairs, played an instrumental role in fact-checking and creating its glossary.
Chronicles also owes its publication to a Kickstarter campaign initiated by Dunham, which brought in donations from all over the world. In a generous move, the author and the editors have decided that all proceeds from the book will go to charity.
According to the publishers, the books will be made available in all leading bookstores in the Valley.
